Danny Delaney, PhD

I recently started my independent private practice in July 2024. I am licensed in Rhode Island. The solo private practice setting has allowed for a higher quality of care and overall better patient experience–while also maintaining my professional value of working with a diverse range of patients. I am highly committed to the patients I work with and am dedicated to helping patients see significant improvements in their daily lives.

I graduated with a BA in psychology and a masters in clinical psychology from Eastern Illinois University in 2013 and 2015, respectively. I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from the APA accredited program at the University of Rhode Island in 2022. While at URI, I received exceptional training in evidence based care and honed my clinical skills working with a variety of populations across different settings in RI. Although I gained extensive experience treating a wide-range of mental health concerns, my clinical and research training focused on addiction, substance use concerns, and health behavior change. I completed my clinical internship at the VA Boston Healthcare System with a specialization in treating addiction and co-occurring mental health concerns (e.g., PTSD). I concluded my Postdoctoral training at RICBT, a large group private practice, in 2023.

My clinical expertise and approach is primarily in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and “third wave” CBT therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and mindfulness-based approaches. I tailor my approach to best meet the needs of patients in terms of what the research suggests will be most effective for a given mental health concern, as well as fit for the individual’s needs and goals.

Outside of my practice, I value time with my family and raising two young children, running, cooking, reading, creative pursuits, and whatever the new hobby is of the month.
